I didn't get into insurance to sell policies. I got into it because I watched people lose everything.
In 2011, I was living in Slave Lake when the wildfire swept through town. We were evacuated overnight. Other communities opened their doors — shelter, clothing, generosity from strangers. It was humbling.
But generosity only goes so far.
I had tenant insurance. It wasn't much, but it gave me a foothold — something to start with while everything else was chaos. Some of my closest friends had nothing. No coverage, no cushion. They had to rebuild from zero, depending entirely on the kindness of others with no end date on that kindness.
That experience never left me.
I know the people I serve because I've worked beside them.
My name is Mark, and before founding Forge Life, I spent years working as an electrical engineering technologist — designing overhead and underground power distribution systems across Alberta. That work didn't happen behind a desk. It happened on-site, alongside powerline technicians and contractors, understanding what was actually being built, not just drawn on paper.
I watched those men and women work in conditions most people never see. Away from their families for days at a time. Building the infrastructure that keeps Alberta running. Taking on physical risk every single day.
And I kept thinking: who's protecting them if something goes wrong?
Not just them — but the owner running the crew. The contractor who built the company from nothing, whose family, whose employees, whose business partners are all depending on him showing up tomorrow.
Why I went independent.
I didn't want to work for one insurance company and sell you their products. I wanted to work for you.
As an independent advisor, I shop the entire Canadian market — comparing carriers not just on price, but on policy wording and financial strength. Because the fine print is where claims get paid or denied. I put my comparisons in writing, so you know exactly what you're buying and why.
That's what I would have wanted for my friends in Slave Lake. Not just a policy — the right policy, explained clearly, from someone who actually understood their life.
Forge Life exists for the trades business owner who has built something real and hasn't yet protected it properly.
If that's you — let's talk.
